Design and Technical Review

At Marine Rigging Services, we provide comprehensive design and engineering consultancy services. Our background in offshore racing (including the Vendée Globe and America's Cup) informs our approach: we design solutions that perform reliably under pressure. Our focus is straightforward: increasing the efficiency, durability, and practical use of marine equipment.

Bespoke Components & Practical Problem Solving

Standard solutions do not always meet the demands of high-performance yachts. When equipment suffers from excessive wear, inefficient layouts, or recurring damage, our in-house design team engineers permanent, custom components.

Recent practical examples of our custom hardware include:

  • Black Jack 100 Jib Cars: We engineered two precision-built jib cars tailored specifically to the exact setup needs of this 100-footer. Managed entirely from concept to reality, every detail was designed to provide optimal performance on the water.

  • V100 Custom Pig Snout : We designed a bespoke pig snout to optimize line routing and securely handle extreme loads, effectively reducing friction and wear in a highly critical area.

  • Bowsprit Routing Nut: On a recent project, tack lines were repeatedly catching and chafing. We engineered a uniquely shaped custom nut to route the lines smoothly into the bowsprit, completely eliminating snagging points and permanently resolving the issue.

Precision Engineering & Rapid Prototyping

Every custom part starts with a careful analysis of the specific loads and spatial constraints on board. We calculate requirements precisely, applying a strict minimum safety factor of 3x, and we clearly define both the working load and breaking load for every piece.

To guarantee fit and function before final manufacturing, our facility relies on in-house 3D printing for rapid prototyping. This allows our team, the crew, and the owners to physically check dimensions and mechanics aboard the yacht. It is a vital step to ensure the final product is practically optimized for those using it.

Core Workshop Capabilities

  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD): 3D modeling tailored strictly to your vessel's requirements.

  • Composite Design: Specialized engineering for lightweight, high-load composite applications.

  • Rapid Prototyping: In-house 3D printing to verify exact dimensions and fit prior to final build.

  • Technical Drawing Review: Objective peer review of existing plans to verify structural integrity and safety margins.

  • Manufacturing & Integration: Producing final pieces in-house or with our established network of specialist fabricators, ensuring seamless installation on site.
